Corporate Stance

Relying on the Gospel as our principal rule of life, we hold ourselves personally and corporately responsible for measuring all of our attitudes, behaviors, and relationships against Jesus’ fundamental commandment of love of God and of neighbor.

The Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine have taken two Corporate Stances in recent history, an AIDS Stance and a Peace Stance. Each stance was taken after a period of “social analysis” which included study, reflection and discussion. Meetings were held at Mt. Augustine where the stances were defined and explored in depth. After this period sisters were asked to cast a vote either for or against the proposed stance. Both stances were approved by 2/3 of the voting members.
